Veterans Rally for Angie Paccione
Along with Congressman Bob Filner and Colorado veterans, Paccione announces support of GI Bill of Rights for the 21st Century.
FORT COLLINS—A group of U.S. military veterans and their families, joined by State Rep. Angie Paccione and U.S. Congressman Bob Filner, gathered today to announce Veterans for Angie, a bipartisan group of veterans that have come together to support Paccione in her run for Congress.
Congressman Filner, the senior Democrat on the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, lauded Paccione for her unyielding support for veterans in the state legislature, and her support for the New GI Bill of Rights for the 21st Century.
“Angie has fought for our current and former service members here in Colorado, and she will fight for them in Congress, as well,” Filner said. “We need more people like Angie in Congress who will do the right thing when it comes to supporting our troops and veterans. With Angie’s help, we will pass the 21st Century GI Bill of Rights.”
Randy Eubanks, a Windsor resident and Navy veteran who serves as Coordinator of Veterans for Angie, noted the stark contrast between Paccione’s solid record on veterans’ issues, and Congresswoman Marilyn Musgrave’s abysmal record that earned her a 0 percent rating from the veterans organization Disabled Veterans of America. (For more details, see below.)
“Marilyn Musgrave has dishonored our troops and veterans by consistently voting to cut benefits, voting against TRICARE for National Guard and Reservists, and voting against a bonus for service members fighting overseas,” Eubanks said. “Angie Paccione has demonstrated principled leadership when it comes to supporting our fighting men and women, and she has never cast a vote against veterans.”
Several other veterans voiced their support of Paccione as well, including Mike Collins, the Vietnam vet who lost his voice because of Agent Orange exposure and who is featured in a TV ad denouncing Musgrave’s attack ad on Paccione using a veteran who lost an eye in combat.
Paccione expressed gratitude for their efforts to return leadership to Congress that will be dedicated to giving our troops, veterans, and their families what they deserve for their sacrifices.
“Marilyn Musgrave has cut and run on our veterans, and even more despicable is the fact that she’s lying about it to their faces,” Paccione said. “Marilyn Musgrave has always sided with the special interests and against the men and women who risk and lose their lives in their service to America, and she will continue to do so. We need principled leadership in Congress for a change.”
