“Special Interest Marilyn” Feeds Off of Big Oil Profits

Marilyn Musgrave makes thousands from ExxonMobil’s price gouging.

FORT COLLINS—ExxonMobil, the world’s largest oil company, has posted the highest third-quarter profit ever recorded by a publicly traded U.S. company, and Marilyn Musgrave can’t wait to get her hands on more of that dough.

ExxonMobil took billions of dollars from hardworking families last quarter due to all-time high gasoline prices, and Musgrave—who was one of only 34 members of the House to vote against a bill to stop price gouging at the pump—has taken thousands from ExxonMobil in payment for her favorable votes for the oil and gas industry.

ExxonMobil has contributed more than $17,000 to Musgrave’s campaigns and nearly half a million dollars to Republicans in Congress in this election cycle. All in all, Musgrave has accepted a total of $56,000 from the oil and gas industry. In return, she’s voted to provide more than $85 billion in giveaways to Big Oil, has consistently voted against lowering gas prices, and has opposed renewable energy initiatives. “Marilyn is no doubt happy to hear about ExxonMobil’s record profits,” Paccione said. “You can bet she’s already called her buddies there for more donations to add to her millions in special-interest cash.”

Paccione added that she won’t accept money from Big Oil, and that in Congress she will vote against gouging American working families.

“I will vote for what’s best for the people, not what’s best for the special interests and corporate executives of the oil and gas industry,” Paccione said. “We need principled leadership in the Fourth District for a change.”
